In Closing ...

19 Oct. 2018
The new owner of the world famous Judge Thieler Tree kindly sent me this photo.  In thanks and in closing this blog, here are links to the annual day-by-day slideshows of the tree's transformation that were posted on this blog during the years 2009 through 2015.

The Tree: 2015

Once again watch as the famous "Judge Thieler Sugar Maple" transitions from summer through autum and into winter.

Below are links to the photos from previous years to help plan your leaf-peeper visit or to see any effects from our ongoing drought.

Shifting Seasons

Watch again as the famous "Judge Thieler Sugar Maple" transitions from summer through autum and into winter.

Below are links to the photos from previous years for those who want to plan a leaf-peeper visit for the days of peak color.

Notice that in 2013 the peak color was more than a week earlier than prior years, perhaps because of the ongoing drought.

Time to Change

It is time to again to watch the daily progression of the famous
"Judge Thieler Sugar Maple" from Summer into Fall.

Below are links to the photos from previous years for those who want to
plan a leaf-peeper visit for the days of peak color, or those who want to
search for evidence of global climate change in year-to-year data.

Peak Peeping Season

If the past is any predictor of the future, this weekend may be the time to see the venerable "Judge Thieler sugar maple" near its peak.
Even the BlackOakNaturalist is making time for the maple as evidenced by this shot on his blog today.

Below is this year's day-by-day leaf-by-leaf-turning slideshow.
After the sugar maples' peak relatively early in the season, there's still a month
of Awesome Autumn around Quincy and all of Plumas County.

Here are links to the photos from previous years for comparison.
By the way, the Al spelled his name "Thieler", and you should too.

Autumn Leaves

Actually, Summer is what has taken leave, and with its leaving
it is time again to document the the annual autumnal display of
the famous "Judge Thieler Sugar Maple".

Here is the slide show that will be updated regularly.
Below are links to the photos from previous years for those who either
want to plan their visit for the days of peak color, or who want to
search for evidence of global climate change in year-to-year data.
And here just for fun is a simulated 3D view of the tree at the end of summer.

West Wing View

The Judge Thieler maple tree
A photo of the Tree taken by Mike Nellor from the front of the West Wing cottage at Ada's Place this morning.
Time to wake up those Leaf-Peepers and tell them to hit the road up to Q-topia!

The Tree 2011

Here is the link to this year's day-by-day snapshots of the famous* "Judge Thieler Tree", a sugar maple, near the heart of beautiful downtown Quincy California.

(*famous) The tree was mentioned in this Sacramento Bee article on Sunday Sept. 25, 2011 touting the Leaf-Peeping opportunities in Plumas County.
... The Judge Theiler [correct spelling is Thieler] Tree, a maple near Quincy's courthouse, has become a magnet for photographers and painters, drawn by its size and stunning colors. ...
Here are photos of artists in action painting the tree last year.

Artists

At the risk of overdoing the tree, one more post. (If you want ongoing tree updates, go to the previous post where I will add to the slide show and the associated album every day or so.)

Photographers visit every day in early autumn to capture some photons; but Friday afternoon in addition, oil met canvas.

The Tree 2010

The Judge Thieler Tree

Here is the link to this year's day-by-day snapshots of the famous "Judge Thieler Tree" near the heart of beautiful downtown Quincy. By the way Leaf-peepers, it is a Sugar Maple, not a Norway maple! Also, many thanks to BlackOakNaturalist for my use of his photo above. His camera is much much much better than the puny cellphone I use to take the daily snapshot.

If you want to compare with last year, 2009 is here.
